Acabo de leer esta historietija en Metatextos, un blog al que me suscribí por error pero el cual no he dejado, ni por error. Se llama El Pequeño Libro Rojo, y fue escrito por alguien que no conozco, pero que es chido.

Éste no es mi cuento, sólo lo promociono, así que ojo con los mails malandros!

El pequeño libro rojo.

Había un pueblo no muy grande, aunque tampoco pequeño. Aquí los hombres no eran malos, aunque tampoco tan buenos. Y en este lugar sin colores ni gracia vivía nuestro protagonista, Leo, un muchachito nada especial.

Leonardo era muy tímido, gustaba de mucho de leer y tenía unos ojos enormes y soñadores que invitaban a escarbar en ellos. A decir verdad, no era un niño-comercial, pero tampoco era el Shrek del pueblo.

La familia de Leonardo no era perfecta, aunque tampoco era como esas familias disfuncionales de hoy. Papá llegaba de trabajar alrededor de las ocho, justo a tiempo para la cena, y siempre traía una historia nueva en sus manos que Leonardo arrebataba apresurado.

Un día no tan soleado, aunque tampoco tan gris, anunciaba su llegada un viajero por las calles en un viejo carretón. Los curiosos se arremolinaban junto a él, así que Leonardo acudió a observar.

El viajero obsequiaba juguetes a los niños y al ver aquellos ojos soñadores, prometió algo especial. Metió su mano en un viejo saco que alguna vez fue azul, extrajo un pequeño y polvoriento libro rojo y lo puso en las manos de Leonardo, quien sin agradecer siquiera corrió alegremente a su casa.

¡Qué historia tan emocionante contenía aquel viejo libro rojo!

Papá, curioso, una noche tomó el libro para ver aquella historia que tanto gustaba a Leonardo, ¡se quedó aterrado con lo que su hijo leía tan apasionado! Al día siguiente lo mostró a Mamá y ella reaccionó de la misma manera. Ambos prohibieron a Leonardo volver a abrir ese libro.

Y en aquel pueblo no tan grande, aunque tampoco pequeño, nunca más volvió a abrirse el pequeño y polvoriento libro rojo obsequiado por el viajero en su viejo carretón, cuyas páginas en blanco escribían el subconsciente de la mente del lector….

Oh Craigslist, you’re always a good source for random encounters, cheap aeron chairs and free kittens… but this is a bit too obscene.

So, let’s all get the message together:
- First, it calls for an editor. Really? Of what: Craigslist ads so they don’t sound like this anymore?
- Then they want a writer with graphic design skills.
- Plus they want someone with a degree in journalism. And of course, in English (for the writing). And then in Arts (for the graphic part).
- Then then then they want skills in Adobe and HTML!! W-H-A-T! (Please adjust comment number 3 to add proper skills/degrees).
- “Experience with digital photography a plus” …………………..
- “Experience required: at least to years writing for a newspaper or magazine along with layout skills”… Oooh no. Is the trucking industry completely unaware that people can actually specialize in things?
- “Willing to help with administrative duties” …. here we go.
- Wait this is better: “Owning a car wouldn’t hurt” hahaha. If they had said “willing to work from the parking lot” or “willing to work from a toilet stall”, it might’ve sounded less shady.
- And on top of top of everything, this is a part-time job. Never mind your awesome awesome skills in writing, editing, designing, coding, driving and accounting; no no, you’ll still have to stay home half of the week.

If I wasn’t so mad I’d email them, but I have no idea how to address this. Do I say it nicely? Do I try to explain? Do I re-write this post without all the irony? Wait… do I apply?!?!?!

Hace rato me metí a bañar y cuando salí me puse de la primera crema que encontré. Resultó ser una que hace años no usaba, y orale, que me recordó los “malos viejos tiempos”. Me llené de nostalgia por un tiempo donde sentía que por primera vez no encajaba, y si ahorita siento que no encajo (y se siente mucho), imagínense antes. Dejé todo lo que estaba haciendo y perdí el tiempo como antes.

No se en qué momento me asaltó la tarde y yo sin estudiar aún, escondiéndome de mi Reader que tiene como 300 cosas sin leer, pero leyendo bien incrédula un email del ayudante de mi abogado diciéndome “on a side note” que se había cambiado el primer nombre… jajaja ¡¿qué?!

Mientras, ayer hice pan pero en un molde gatúbelo que me encontré en la tienda de Hello Kitty. ¿Quién dice que aquí ya no hay dinero para el pan? Les presumo.

Qué lindo. Pensé que me iba a hacer más feliz, pero aún no. Tal vez para la próxima.

The best/worst/weirdest thing is that Jason has certainly been through all these human exploration statements at least once a day for the past two years, and I’m still alive. Give this man an applause.

Este fin de semana, aparte de andar de viajera al pasado, a China y a cuasi-Texas, anduve de compinche de Angelita, que anda ayudando a una novia distraída con su boda. Ojo, la novia anda distraída sola, no con su boda, por esa razón andamos de ayudantas.

Resulta que la novia se casa en 4 meses y sigue en la baba sin hacer planes de nada. Y por “nada” me refiero a: aún no tiene vestido, zapatos, peinado, comida, mesa de regalos*, vestidos de las damas de honor*, tux para el novio, regalos para los invitados, etc. Lo único que tiene es su vestido rojo para la ceremonia tradicional China y… un novio que le confió la coordinación total de su boda. Así, Angela se convirtió en su mamá y está organizando todo, la pobre.

Pues este sábado fuimos a que la novia distraída fuera a ver vestidos por primera vez, a las meras meras Bridal Houses, ayjuesu.

Chequen, aprendí muchas cosas:
1. Se debe hacer cita para todo: ver vestidos, tener alguien que te enseñe vestidos, tener alguien que te ponga la crinolina 100 veces…
2. Entre más mujeres lleves contigo, mejor.
3. Debes llevar al menos dos amigas para que te tomen fotos desde cada ángulo y de cada vestido que te pruebes.
4. Sí se vale ir con hombres, y entre más los hagas esperar, mejor.
5. No se vale bromear, sobre nada y sobre nadie [esa la aprendí por las malas.]
6. No importa cual sea el tema, nada nada nada es cursi para una novia.
7. No importa cual sea la novia, todas quieren vestidote de princesas.
8. Hasta en los lugares más nice hay vestidos desde $100USD. [Pero también entiéndanlo, esto es Estados Unidos.]

Al final todo salió bien y por supuesto, a la novia no le gustó nada. Ahora sé que siente Jason cuando va conmigo a comprar algo, aunque sea cereal. Casi casi me lo pruebo si pudiera.

2. Damas de honor. Jajajjaa sí, claro, cuántas? Y por qué los hombres no son damos de honor? O al menos hombres de honor, eh? Pues porque no hay. Los hombres de honor son para el ejército y las películas de Tom Cruise, para las bodas y esas cosas cursis no.

I just fell in love again.
The last time I remember falling in love was last week when I saw that kitten in PAWS Chicago. Or when I went to Mango like two months ago and saw that gorgeous purse. Seriously.

But music-seriously, the last falling in loving might’ve been with Death Cab For Cutie’s “Narrow Stairs” or Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida”. Are you also going to be better than Snow Patrol’s “A Hundred Million Suns”?

“Ode To J.Smith” is so good. I even forgive you for sounding like Bono in “Song to Self” and for scaring me with that EP “JSmith”. That was creepy. I was ready not to give you another chance, just like I’m not sure if I should give George Romero another chance after that original Dawn of the Dead movie :S

Why aren’t you famous here? Why aren’t you coming for Christmas? Why is “Chinese Blues” so good? … And more importantly, does it bother you when people compare you to Coldplay?

Oh Travis, you’re all that Keane couldn’t be with “Perfect Symmetry”. You make me want to sing.

Now you peeps all over, get “Ode To J.Smith”, but try to keep it on the legal side. You’ll like it, it’s genius, rocky, and new… good for walking, driving and passing a test. Like whisky.

Right after that Fanta post, more pretty cases to talk about!

Fanta developed a shiny new image this month, and now it’s Bounce’s turn. And Tide’s. Aaand General Mills’. So besides showing you what they now look like, I thought this would be a good chance to talk about that sensitive issue that I always want to discuss besides branding: rebranding.

New times, strategies and ideas call for a new way to show a change. For these brands, they didn’t opt for a whole new design, and they also didn’t go for the easy fix of adding new elements to an old design. They did what good brands are supposed to do: they improved their look.

With consumers turning more sophisticated, looking for something they can relate to, and recognizing marketing efforts, the redesign trend is finally being adopted by big brands.

Rebranding is no surprise these days. Rethinking current branding strategies through simpler and friendlier design can lead to making that connection you want your customers to feel with your brand, to stay in their minds, to try you out.

None of these brands made any big moves, their colors are the same, and the product’s feeling and target also remained alike; but their their logos received soft design touches, while their packaging evolved to adjust to new markets.
Their new face now talks about modern times, for consumers that are evolving as well.

So, see the importance of being updated? And more importantly, see the importance of listening to me every once in a while? Wink.

Kidrobot, the toy source for all pretty just opened a store in Wicker Park, Chicago. That is, like 15 minutes from my pretty office/apartment and the pretty pajamas I wear in said office/apartment.

Even though I hate all things “kid”, I love all things “robot”.
Kidrobot, for all those who have not lived on planet Earth for the past 6 years, is a magical place where you can find vinyl artsy toys, clothes, accessories, books, and other not-grown-up stuff.

The sad thing is that the Chicago store will only be open from October to December, so seriously kids, if we only have a couple of months, we need to buy things for the whole year.
